Reasons Why you Should Consider Self Employment

While everyone dreams of this turning point in their life, to experience freedom and get started on their own, which is great in today's globalized start-up economy promoting entrepreneurship development. Besides support from the government and financial institutions to promote growth and startup culture, it is extremely important for you to primarily understand the advantages of going ''self-employed'' in the digitally connected times and the error of online jobs.

Just like every coin has two different sides, self-employment has its share of both advantages and disadvantages for those who choose this path of life. Nevertheless, despite all the challenges, fears and drawbacks of going self-employed, there are more good reasons why you should join the bandwagon of successful entrepreneurs.

Here are some reasons you should consider self-employment

#1. You're your own boss.

It's the one we all dreamed about when we realized self-employment was a viable option, being our own boss. Escaping the rat race and living life as we pleased. When you're self-employed you no longer have a "higher up" governing your every move. You control how your work is done. Your client has a say in the final product, but that's it- their power ends there. How you get from point A to B is completely up to you and that is awesome.

#2. Earn more, spend less

Working for yourself means you can manage your own salary. Even better, your income won't get reduced by additional expenses, such as travel to work, health insurance or even gas costs.

#3. You enjoy variety.

When you were an employee- whether you were crumbling away in a cubicle, restlessly working retail, or dying at the drive thru, you were handed a manual or given some hasty instructions by your boss and then that was it. You knew what you needed to know to perform your job and that was it, there was no reason to grow beyond that. Because your job never, ever changed.
As a freelancer your job is constantly changing. You are expected to continually adapt, learn and update your skills. With every new client comes a new challenge.

#4. Work wherever you want.

Being self-employed gives you the privilege of choosing your own workspace. You don't always have to stay at home. When you want some fresh air, you can work from your favourite cafe, local library or even in the park.

#5. No more uniform.

Say goodbye to uncomfortable business suits and stifling ties. Being able to work wherever you want allows you the comfort of stepping out in denims and sneakers without being bothered about sticking to a formal dress code. You are only required to dress up in formal professional attire when meeting clients face-to-face.

#6. You set your own schedule.

Whether you crave the steady familiarity of a fixed schedule, or you long mix it up with hours that are more flexible; as your own boss, you're the one who creates your schedule.
If you're not a morning person you can rest easy knowing that you no longer have to set your alarms in triplicate in order to just barely make your morning meeting.

#7. You choose your own clients.

When you work as an employee you're more-or-less forced to serve whoever decides to show up at your employer's place of business.Whether it's a bedraggled couple with two crying children looking to buy school supplies or the confused woman who's called three times in the past hour with the exact same customer service question: you need to help them because its your job!!
If a client yells at you now, it's because you chose the wrong client. You're the one in control now, not them.

#8. No more drama.

Some people find it easier to concentrate in solitude and silence. If you belong to this kind of personality type, then being self-employed is a great alternative. You don't have to be distracted by co-worker drama or trivial gossips.

The Final Word is that:

Truth is self employment is a fantastic lifestyle choice. Be thankful.
If you ever forget why you chose to be your own boss, think back to what you were doing before you became a freelancer.
There many ways to becoming self employed especially now with the new era of digital technology starting from online jobs.  You can find out about how to make money online here or learn about the best online jobs in Kenya here
