4 BRILLIANT WAYS ON HOW TO MAKE PERSONAL CONNECTIONS ONLINE

Virtual Networking Simplified.

As business has become increasingly virtual, learning how to network virtually has become key to driving sales, creating relationships and furthering your career.

Being connected to a network of personal and professional resources is critical to growth and success in all parts of our lives. It is important that we continues to build these networks throughout adulthood, forming new relationships, but also maintaining those that we have nurtured over time.

This can be a little tricky because the reality is that personal branding is important if you're establishing a business online. But it is possible to brand yourself while maintaining authenticity. To start;

#1. Have a goal in mind

Having a goal in mind comes down to understanding why you want to network and the results you are trying to achieve. When you join a virtual networking event, it is easy to slide into the background and get lost behind your computer. Creating a goal and deciding in advance what you want from networking can make a huge difference in whether a networking event is a success or not. Do you want to walk away with a certain number of contacts? Do you want to schedule virtual coffees? Do you want to identify people to add on LinkedIn and use the virtual event as a future ice breaker? Having a goal gives your networking a purpose, helps you to meet interesting people and pushes you to break out of your comfort zone so you're more successful making your moves.

#2. Be curious

Ask other people questions. Create opportunities for others to participate and enjoy the discussion with you. When you approach a conversation with curiosity, you begin to ask more questions to get to know more about someone, rather than jumping in to get your own thoughts and opinions across. Curiosity is the key! Connecting with someone is all about being genuinely interested in the other person. And that is where the magic happens.

#3. Create formalized communication methods

Write articles that you regularly share; share great writing that others have produced, including those within your network; produce a newsletter that provides value to your tribe as a whole; recognize members of your network publicly when they accomplish something.

#4. Listen

Listening well is an art form and a rarity in business these days. Let your customers know you care by offering them your full attention. Take note of their tone and, when appropriate, match it. A light-hearted example of this might be if a caller stumbles when giving you their phone number and becomes embarrassed, share a laugh with them. Find ways to relate to your customers and you'll be surprised by how much easier it is to anticipate their needs.

Final Thoughts...

The key to smart networking is be consistent, build up good habits, and remember, there's a human on the other side of that computer. Whether you want to build relationships that will help you take your career to the next level, generate sales, or create profitable relationships, it starts with a connection.

If you're not going to be in a physical room with the people you want to meet, go to the places online where your desired connections hang out.
